I’m a proud Ravenclaw on Pottermore with the username ThestralSnidget84, but my friends call me Thestral, Thesi, or Thes.
I love books, especially Harry Potter! He has been my dearest friend in some of the darkest times of my life, reminding me that “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of places, if only one remembers to turn on the light”.
But the Harry Potter books aren’t the only books I love, so I created this blog to share some of the other books I love with my friends more easily than I can in the Ravenclaw common room or the Great Hall. I guess you could call this a place where I review books, but it’s far simpler than that for me. I just want to share the books I love with the people I love, in the hope that it will give them even more books to read, and more importantly- more adventures!
Some of the books I like are for the older Hogwarts students, so I’ll put a little * symbol in the title of the post of each blog to suggest an age range. If I talk about a book that I have suggested an older age for, but you still want to read it, you should ask your parents to check the book out for themselves before deciding if they’ll let you read it. I have been conservative in the ages that I state, to try and make sure that younger Hogwarts students don’t read anything their parents deem inappropriate for them. THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!!! THERE’S NO NEED TO GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STAY YOUNG FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!
I will also try to give as much information about where you can get the books from in case you want to read them, though in most cases this may just be information about the British version of the book (including the price, which is in British Pound Sterling). Hopefully this will be enough info for my foreign friends to find the book in their own country. You should also remember that the front cover of the books that I post are the UK covers, so it might look different in your country. And if you have an ereader such as Kindle, Kobo, or Nook), you might find the ebook is cheaper than the RRP for the physical copy. Shop around is my best advice.
Most of the books I like are Fantasy, but also I like some Science Fiction, Horror, and some Comic Books/Graphic Novels.
Also, I probably won’t write too much about Harry Potter, because if you’re reading this then you’re probably a Potterhead already, so don’t need me to tell you how great it is!
Lastly, most of the books I will write about will be ones’ that aren’t as well known as the big ‘worldwide bestsellers’. This is for two reasons: The first is that most of you will already know about books that have had millions of pounds spent on publicity even if you haven’t read them, so you don’t need me to tell you if you like them and want to read them. The second reason is because I believe that that are so many great authors out there who are working really hard to make a living from their dreams of being a writer, but for one reason or another haven’t had the phenomenal success of more well known writers yet. Don’t forget; JK Rowling started writing Harry Potter in a small flat in Edinburgh as a single mother, desperately trying to find a job to support her daughter. She had to struggle and fight for her big break, so if I can help to spread the work of other writers who I think should have the same recognition for their work then this blog can become a way for me to do that, as well as giving my friends more adventures.
I will try to post a new entry every Saturday and Wednesday, but please be patient with me if sometimes I don’t. The Muggle word has a nasty habit of getting in the way of my life at Hogwarts. And not all my posts will be about books, I will also post some random posts about other things from time to time if I think something is interesting enough to tell you about.
NOTE: All the info about the books, such as publishers and RRP etc. is as accurate as possible at the time of posting. If you find any errors that need correcting please let me know.
