Riddle Me This Severn

Several of you have let me know that you do actually like the riddle posts, so I have decided to continue with them. So here goes:

Your riddles for this week are:

1) Leonardo de Vinci carried out the following experiment. He held a sphere of very thin fragile glass above a floor of solid stone. When he dropped it, the sphere fell two metres without breaking. How?

2) Dave went with his uncle to the cinema. They went to the Box Office and Dave had to pay as usual, but they were told that Dave’s uncle was not allowed to enter the cinema. His uncle had been to the cinema many times before, but had never been refused entry before. Why was he refused this time?

As I didn’t post any riddles last week, there are no answers to give.

Good luck!
