There has been some very sad news today. Sir John Hurt, the actor who played Olivander in the Harry Potter films, has died. It’s unclear how at the moment, but I am sure that will be discovered soon.
We all know him for the part he played in the Harry Potter universe, but just like Richard Harris (the original Dumbledore) and Alan Rickman (Professor Snape), he was an icon of British theatre, cinema, and TV long before we knew him as the best wand maker in the world. A lot of you will also know him as Doctor Who from the 50th Aniversary episode.
My sympathy goes to his family and friends, for he was more to them than simply a famous man who’s work will outlive him.
“I never had any ambition to be a star, or whatever it is called, and I’m still embarrassed at the word.” John Hurt.
