This is the second book in the His Darkest Materials series.

Will has run away after accidentally killing an intruder, and stumbled across a magical portal to a parallel universe. There he meets Lyra, who he returns to his own with. There they find the Lyra is not the first visitor from her dimension, and find themselves manipulated into doing a villans bidding.

While meanwhile, an old friend discovers what harm is intended for Lyra, and sets out to rescue her with a team of witches. Everything bad that is happening is because if a prophecy, with Lyra at the centre, and there are ruthless people who intend on making sure things go their own way.

With lots of tension, and a rollar coaster ride of a story; I’ve really enjoyed reading this story.

The next book in the series is called The Amber Spyglass.
