This is the first book in a series called Summoner.
Fletcher has grown up in a remote northern town, where nothing much happens, and the local landowners have very little time or compassion for a boy who was left wrapped in a blanket at the town gates as a baby. The only person prepared to take him in is the towns’ blacksmith, who he must turn to for help after getting into a fight with the spoilt son of the richest man in town.
Fletcher knows he is in trouble, and will have even more questions to answer if the demon he’s summoned from a book left to him by a passing solider is discovered, so he flees to the capitol with his demon and signs up at an academy for battle mages. But as a commoner and a stranger, the only person he can trust is his demon as he trains for front line of the empires war with Orcs. This story looks like it will be an epic adventure as Fletcher discovers his place in the world, and how he can make it a better place.
The second book in the series is called The Inquisition.
