Last night I watched a TV show called Tom Felton Meets the Superfans on the BBC. It was shown randomly at 1am, on BBC3, and I didn’t even see it advertised, so it was lucky I was still awake.
It is a documentary about what makes some people become more than just an average fan. It concentrates on Harry Potter fans, but talks about super fans in general, and has interviews with JK Rowling, Dan Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and William Shatner (Star Treks Captain Kirk), as well as Tom Felton as the presenter. It’s a really interesting look at just how seriously some people take fandom, and the reasons behind it.
I won’t give too much away as it is still available to download and stream via the BBCiPlayer (www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer) for another 29 days. The BBCiPlayer is only available in the UK, but hopefully there will be other places you can watch it in other countries, you’ll just have you search for it.
“Anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve.” JK Rowling.
